Yes, I'm still alive. Although for a while, our computer was not. Our hard drive completely died and we had to get a new one and reformat it and all that good stuff. Meanwhile, I caught a bugger of a cold and didn't even go into work Wed, Thur, or Friday. I didn't do any knitting at all. I did make one small cross stitch towel for an exchange and cut out a few sewing projects (a spring dress and some sewing machine accessories). I also found some cute buttons for my jean jacket, which I need to get back to. I have to start on the lining so I'm procrastinating. You know, I have to change out the needle and thread and all that.

I might not get much accomplished in the next few days cuz I have a big job interview to prepare for. It's Wednesday morning--wish me luck!

Well, I was going to post some photos yesterday but our home pc is not feeling well. I'm at work right now.

Knitting. I finished blueberry hill sock #1 and cast on for #2. I made a tiny bit of progress on the Peruvian Sierra sleeves. I started a new sock for summer using some GGH Sprint that I got at Velona a while back. It's 75% cotton and 25% nylon. My allergies were really bothering me on Saturday so I wanted to work on something without any animal fibers! I did rip one ufo--a lonely sock that was too big. Now, with my ballwinder, I have a nice little ball of sockyarn to use for a different sock pattern. I'm thinking about frogging the must have. For some reason I'm just not feelin' it--I love the cabling, but the pattern leaves much to be desired. Besides the small sizing, it has a cropped length and really long sleeves. Maybe I will just design my own sweater and steal the cabling? I don't know.

Sewing. I started on the yellow jean jacket. It's turning out really cute. I even found the perfect lining fabric in my stash--some silky polyester stuff that I bought a long time ago at an Indian store. It's fuschia with yellow flowers and I think it's going to be adorable. Now to find the perfect buttons.

My MIL received her scarf and she loved it. She had to immediately put it on with her camel coat and parade around to all her friends' houses. hee. For the moment, I am a good DIL. My mom loved her fleece lounge pants as well. They came at a very good time as they just had a big winter storm in northern Wisconsin and lots of snow.

I keep thinking about sewing a 'jean jacket' with some lightweight pale yellow corduroy that I got on clearance at JoAnns. I would love that! The jacket is lined and I can't decide what to line it with. Normal lining-type fabric? Cute printed cotton fabric? Lightweight flannel for warmth? No lining? Maybe I will call my mom and get her opinion. She is sewer-extraodinaire.

DH has work to so all weekend so I will be blissfully staying home and knitting and sewing. Yay!

Yesterday I decided to pull out my Peruvian Sierra sweater and make some progress on it. Several months ago I started the back, almost finished it, and then stuffed the whole thing in my knitting bag. Short attention span and all that. But, uh, I think it would be really nice if I actually had a handknit wool sweater to wear while there's still a bit of cool weather. Can you believe that I don't have one? Well, ok, one, but that doesn't count because Karen knit it. The only long-sleeve sweaters I have that I knit for myself: 1 acrylic & 1 cotton. I know, it's embarrassing. Anyhoo, I finally finished the back of the pullover and started on both sleeves at the same time. This sweater is all stockinette so it really shouldn't take long!

Last night I finished pippi kneestocking #1. I love it, it's adorable, and it fits perfectly. The only thing I didn't like--the 8 millions ends I had to weave in! No, I didn't cast on the second one yet, but I should do so right away before I lose momentum.

Knee-high sock #1 is moving along nicely. As a matter of fact, I just turned the heel last night. Of course, then I got bored with it and read a magazine and did some yoga.

I finished the purple shirt and I think it looks great. I'm planning to wear it to work tomorrow so I'll try to get a pic. Next up: pink paisley fleece shirt. I think. It's already cut out, anyway.

MIL's garter stitch scarf has been knit, fringed, and washed. Now I just have to wait for it to dry so I can mail it off and be done with it. heh. Now I have "only" 21 knitting wips/ufos in the living room. ahem. Well, at least I organized them and put a bunch of them in bags so they are ready to grab whenever the urge strikes. I'm thinking maybe I should work on my knee socks next. I'd really love to wear them!

This morning I also did a bit of organizing in my sewing/fabric stash. I found a few UFOs there that I really should finish before I start something else new. I have a purple moleskin shirt all cut out already that would be nice to wear this week. We'll see. Last night I was also looking at making a shirt from some goofy/cute easter fabric that I bought on clearance a long time ago. I'm such a sucker for holiday-themed stuff.

Look what came in the mail yesterday

Yup, my Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in daffodil & latte. Isn't it yummy? I am resisting casting on immediately because I already have too many socks in progress (and all 4 pairs of US 1 dpns are in use)!

One of the things DH and I did for valentine's day was take a short trip to the LYS. DH bought me a gorgeous skein of bulky wool in a pale yellow color (my favorite). I'm planning to make this hat. Eventually.

Sewing: today I made a pair of fleece lounge pants for my mom. They should help keep her toasty warm for the rest of the winter. I love lounge pants! And jammies!

Surprise--I started a new pair of socks. I'm making the Serenade Lace socks in the latest Cast On magazine. I'm using the recommended yarn, Sockotta, in a colorway that's white, orange, and grey. It sounds icky, but I really like the way it looks. I'm making the leg somewhat shorter than in the pattern since this yarn really has no give, plus they will make nice summer socks that way. I just finished picking up the gusset stitches on the first sock:

In other news, it looks like biotechnology companies in San Diego are finally starting to hire chemists again. I have one phone interview next week and a possible regular interview with a second company. Yay!

Why I like knitting socks for my sister:
I am wearing my socks today and everyone loves them. They are the best!

Oops! I fell off the yarn diet. Hey, it was just sock yarn so the damage wasn't too bad. Besides, I've been really good for a long time...I'll call this my valentine's day gift to myself since I previously told DH that he doesn't have to buy me a gift. Lorna's Laces has some new colors out for 2004 and I couldn't resist buying some daffodil (furthest to the right) and some latte from Bobbie (in shepard sock). Latte is a limited edition color and I believe most online stores are sold out of it already. Oh, and I also got 1 skein of LL sport weight in rainbow from eBay, but I got that at a steal. Of course, I haven't exactly been on a fabric diet during this yarn diet. ahem.

Yesterday I went to Beverly's fabrics on my lunch hour to pick up the 20" zipper. I also got a small amount of a great printed knit fabric for a summer top. It was a steal at around $3 total! You gotta love 60" wide fabrics cuz you can buy such small yardage that way!

I love knitting socks. I spent all of Friday afternoon knitting the new green sock and then at the end of the night I frogged it cuz I realized I didn't like the colors and I would never have made it through the second sock. Instead, I dug out some gorgeous Cherry Tree Hill Supersock in the colorway blueberry hill. So pretty. I started a sock for me and I'm at the gusset decreases right now. I've decided that I'm only going to make socks for me using super-soft merino like CTH, koigu, or lorna's laces. Am I spoiled or what?

I started a garter stitch scarf for my MIL. At Christmas, I gave a scarf to my BIL's gf and of course my MIL wanted one too cuz everyone in all the magazines is wearing long handknit scarves. But of course, she had to ok the yarn and the color. So when we went there on Sunday for her birthday I brought some gorgeous burgundy wool/alpaca that I got from Karen. She decided it would do (harumph) so I just cast on 20 stitches on a 10 1/2 needle and I'm garter stitching away. Good thing it's a bulky yarn.

Sewing. I finished the purple velour hoodie but I haven't worn it yet. I have a tiny bit of hand sewing to do on the zipper. Yesterday I started a sundress from me using some great peachskin that I got on clearance at JoAnns. I have to get to the store this week sometime and buy a 20" zipper for it.

You are Shetland Wool.
You are Shetland Wool.
You are a traditional sort who can sometimes be a
little on the harsh side. Though you look
delicate you are tough as nails and prone to
intricacies. Despite your acerbic ways you are
widely respected and even revered.

What kind of yarn are you?

Ta da! The diaper bag:

and here is is next to the snap-out changing pad (well, velcro actually)

I finished the lollipop socks last night during ER. I decided to mail them to my sister and I forgot to take a pic first before packaging them up. Oops. But I posted a pic of one the other day so you get the idea. I cast on for another pair of socks using some yarn that I got in a swap. It's Online Supersocke (mostly greens with some white and orange) and it's a wool-cotton blend. That's my favorite, really. I wear my Regia cotton plus socks all the time.

I'm thinking I should work on my velour hoodie today (cuz I want to wear the set to my MIL's bday on Sunday), but I'm kind of tired so I might just sit and knit socks for the rest of the day. Oh, and do yoga. Must do yoga.

The diaper bag is 99% finished. I just have a little bit of sewing to do by hand to fix a boo-boo. It's so cute. Last night I made myself a pair of yoga pants from some lavender stretch velour. They fit perfectly and I love them. I'm also working on a matching zip-front hoodie. I actually wore the pants to work today, so they're not just for yoga. heh.

I received the new Cast On today and for the most part, it sucks. I like Joan M-M's design, but that's about it.

Anyway, I'm off work until Monday. Woohoo! I promise to finally post some pics tomorrow.

I did a lot of sewing yesterday. I'm working on a diaper bag that's somewhat involved--padding, lining, several pockets, and a removable changing pad built-in! It's fun, though, and I got this really adorable yellow baby fabric with pull toys on it. Pic when it's complete. In knitting news, I'm just continuing on the Opal lollipop sock whenever I have a moment.

Yesterday was fun. Karen came over and we headed to the Whistle Stop bar for "Sip and Knit". There were quite a few people there, including Sally Melville. How cool is that?

Then we came back to my place for football, sock knitting, and snacks. Seriously, it doesn't get much better than that. I made quite a bit of progress on Opal lollipop sock #2--I'm doing the gusset decreases.

I'm taking today off, but I don't know if I'll do much knitting. I have plans to sew and work out. Ciao!
