I really don't have any knitting content today. I'm sort of working on the latest soaker, but mostly I'm changing diapers, feeding Henry, and doing laundry. I'll leave you with a pic of Henry wearing one of the adorable hats that Karen knit him

By the way

If you or someone you know is looking for L/XL maternity clothing, check out my eBay auctions. I'm selling tons of stuff that I never got a chance to wear (still new with tags)!

Soakers

You may have noticed that in last Wednesday's entry Henry was wearing a bright orange wool soaker. I knit that one using the hybrid wool soaker pattern and some vintage wool from eBay. Here's the other one I just knit in preemie size

The stars are cut from some felted wool leftovers and sewn on. This one won't fit him for much longer!

Here's a pic of him modeling one I made a while back using this pattern and some cascade 220 in white. It's really a lot cuter on than I thought it would be.

Right now I'm trying out this pattern with some kelly green cascade 220.

I know I was skeptical, but these wool soakers really are great over cloth diapers. They are cooler and more breathable than plastic of any kind and they really do soak up a lot of liquid. Oh, and you don't have to wash them each time you use them. Wool is magical that way.

Friday

Is it Friday? I hadn't noticed. The days kind of blend together when you're feeding a baby every three hours....well anyway, at least DH will be around this weekend. I may get to run some errands and everything (oh, the excitement)!

In knitting news, I just finished a preemie sized wool soaker for Henry using Lion Brand fisherman's wool. I still need to do the crocheting around the leg openings and I'm thinking about adding a little embellishment as well.

I leave you with this (if only he always looked so quiet and peaceful)!

Socks FO

Regia Cotton Surf Color
5412

These socks have some sentimental meaning--I was working on them while I was in the hospital waiting for Henry to show up. At some point I broke the yarn and knit a preemie hat for Henry, then when I got home I finished the socks (I obviously don't care about messing up the striping)!

Warning: sappy post alert

Henry is one month old today (which is still odd to me, considering that his due date was July 8th). It's been the hardest and the best month of my life. All the cliches are true--I love him more than I ever thought possible.

Happy Happy Joy Joy

This beautiful yarn was sent to me by my friend Melinda. How sweet is she?? Henry's been getting all the presents--so here's one for me! :) It's blue faced leicester wool, kool-aid dyed and spun by her!! She calls is "golden trout" and I love the colors. There's about 400 yards here and I'm trying to decide what to do with it. Suggestions? (of course socks are always an option...)

HAPPY FIRST FATHER'S DAY

To answer the question from the last post, the diapers are from the free preemie pattern here and the t-shirts are from Simplicity 9275. I made the t-shirts in the preemie size, but they are actually way too big for Henry right now. No big deal, he will grow into them of course.

At yesterday's doctor appointment Henry weighed in at 5lb 9oz. Needless to say he is eating well and we are just to continue doing everything the same. He doesn't have to go back until his 6-8 week checkup!

It should be an interesting weekend. Tomorrow is DH's birthday and the inlaws are coming down. I already gave him his gift and I ordered a guava cream cake from the Hawaiian bakery (per his request). No big plans for father's day--just quality time with Henry and possibly some naps!

Wednesday

The nurse came by on Monday and Henry weighed in at 5lbs 5oz and is otherwise doing great. A few of his tiny preemie clothes are actually a bit too small! Too short, actually. He has long arms and legs.

Here are a couple of t-shirt and diaper sets I managed to sew in my spare time (snort).

Preemie cloth nappies

While Henry was still in the hospital I did manage to sew up a dozen preemie cloth diapers using this free pattern

here's Henry modeling one

Happy Sunday

The bad news is that tomorrow is Monday and that means that DH is going back to work. Ack! It's going to be rough. Right now he's taking the midnight and 3 am feedings which means I get to sleep. So much for that.

Henry is doing great. At his doctor appointment on Thursday he was up to 5lbs 1 oz! Monday the nurse will stop by and Thursday we have another dr appointment to check his weight.

I finished the yellow preemie sweater I was knitting, but I'm not really happy with it. The pattern wasn't very good quality (ok, it was free), plus I was in a hurry to finish it. Oh well, he'll grow out of it in no time. I'll post a pic as soon as I get it on him.

I have been tagged by Peggy!

Total volume of music files on my computer:
zero (nothing of mine anyway--DH may have some)

The last CD I bought was:
Gwen Stefani's solo CD

Song playing right now:
the radio is on some goofy AM lounge music station that Henry seems to like

Five songs I listen to a lot or that mean a lot to me:
"Over the Rainbow" by Iz
"Overjoyed" by Stevie Wonder
"You are the Sunshine of my Life" by Stevie Wonder
"Closer to fine" by the Indigo Girls
"Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" by Morrissey

Five people to whom I'm passing this baton:
no one at the moment. I'm too lazy ;)

Hurrah! Henry is home.

He got discharged at around 5pm yesterday. So far everything is fine and we are so glad that we don't have to run back and forth to the hospital any more!

Well, Henry isn't home yet. He had a minor setback with eating, but he should be fine. We might take him home today, but definitely by Thursday. Here's how he feels about staying in the hospital

Henry is doing great. He is eating well and gaining weight--he is up to 4lbs 5oz now. The plan is for us to take him home on Monday. YAY! Saturday DH and I are attending a 3-hour "how to care for your preemie at home" class and each time we go in we are given more information by the nurses. I think we may also give him a bath in a few days if his cord falls off. Henry has lots of testing to go through, like a hearing test and all that good stuff.
