Socks.

I joined the six socks knit-along. You know, cuz I don't already have 8 million socks on the needles. Oh, and did I mention that I still haven't finished my broadripples? Never mind. These are fun. The pattern is called cloverleaf and I'm using some Regia Cotton Plus from my stash. I love this yarn!

Knitting. Here's the progress I've made so far on the Linen Drape top. (note to self: ruffles are not fun in linen yarn) Posted by Hello

Time to Linen Drape-along!

I finally swatched my Rowan Linen Drape in watermelon.

I'm really glad I did--this stuff shrinks like crazy in cold water! Using US 4 needles, I made a swatch of 35 stitches. I dunked in a bowl of cold water and poof-it went from 7 inches wide to 6 inches wide. Now it's the perfect gauge for the Lola sweater I want to make, though. Cool.

I just dropped my sister off at the airport. We had a very nice time while she was here. Mostly eating, a little shopping, and last night we went to the Padres game. We also did some crafts--Sunday we went to 'knit and get lit' at the Whistle Stop bar. It was fun, although there weren't many people there because of father's day. I did wear my new yellow sundress and I received lots of compliments.

Yesterday we stopped by one yarn store and one bead store. My sister got the supplies to make herself a new pair of earrings. She also worked on a knit hat while she was here. Oh yeah, we also went fabric shopping on Saturday (of course). I bought more Padres fabric and my sis got some pretty fuschia eyelet to make a curtain for her bathroom window. She has been wanting to learn how to sew, so we had a lesson today. She went home with a new curtain!

Me, I finished a really cute purse from the leftover fabric from my sundress. I also cut out the pieces for a sleeveless top for me and a matching purse. I love Michael Miller fabric!!!

My new sundress is finished. Of course it looks much cuter on, but you will have to trust me. I don't feel like modeling it and I don't have anyone to take my picture if I do! Posted by Hello

I finished DH's shirt in time for his birthday tomorrow. I'll try to get a pic of him wearing it.

I finished the bib overalls for me, but I'm still not sure if I like them.

They're cute, but the prints may be a bit over the top.

Last night I cut out a new sundress for me using an adorable retro print.

I continue to be really busy. Doing what? Mostly non-exciting stuff. Updating and sending out my resume', dr. appointments, sewing. Yesterday I had a (phone) job interview that went pretty well. Cross your fingers cuz although it's another temp position, it's an interesting project with better pay and duties than my last job.

Sewing. I finished a little 'travel art organizer', which will be a birthday gift for my sister's boyfriend. The dress from inexpensive fabric is basically done, but I'm not completely happy with it so I think it needs some tweaking. DH's goofy Hawaiian shirt is almost done--just need to do the hemming and the buttonband (you know, my least favorite parts). I'm also almost done with a pair of bib overalls for me. I went a little overboard with the fabric selection and I think they may be a little over the top (ie clownpants). I'll decide after I try them on.

I'm also doing some cleaning because my sister is coming for a visit this weekend. Yay! She found a last-minute cheap plane ticket so she's flying in on Saturday and leaving on Tuesday. She wants to learn to sew and we're planning to go to knitting happy hour on Sunday (if it's still on).

Yesterday afternoon was great fun. I met Chris at a coffee shop and there was knitting and chatting, chatting and knitting. Oh, and a decaf soy cappuccino in a real cup (everyone thinks it's funny that I care about this....I happen to love drinking coffee and tea from actual coffee cups intead of paper or styrofoam. heh). I worked on the Regia cotton surf socks that are always in my purse and I actually finished the first one. woohoo! Chris worked on a secretly ironic toilet paper cover that he was designing as he went along. Hee.

I have lots of little things to take care of today. I already took the dog for a long walk so at least that's out of the way. I need to update my chemistry research summary because I have a (phone) job interview tomorrow (the manager wants to see the summary ahead of time). I am so not good at any of that (the writing or the interviewing). I still need to go to the storage space cuz I didn't go last week. I need to send the last little bit of info about me off for the new Stitch N Bitch book. I need to update my resume and peruse the classifieds. I know there's more, but I'll get to that later.

I started a new cross stitch project yesterday. I joined an alphabet round robin and my piece is going to be a cute little dinosaur alphabet stitched onto an afghan. Here's the A.....how cute is that??

(note: it's not really crooked, that's just cuz I took the pic at an angle.)

I started a new sewing project yesterday after all. It's a sleeveless dress for me using some very inexpensive cotton print I got at JoAnns. Of course, I don't know when I will ever have occassion to wear it, but that isn't the point. I also went to Beverly's today and picked up some fabric to make a Hawaiian shirt for DH. It has hibiscus flowers and motorcycles. Hee!

Ok, so today is the first day of the rest of my life. I think I shall be full of silly cliches today as I try to get things back on track.

Last night I pigged out on enchiladas, margaritas, and chocolate candy, so today it's back to getting healthy. No caffeine, no nutrasweet, 0-1 alcoholic beverages a day, cut way down on refined carbs. Lots of water and some sort of exercise every day (starting with just walking & yoga).

I realize that there was nothing I could have done to prevent my miscarriage, but because of my health problems I really need to try and live a healthy lifestyle to maximize my health & fertility for the future. I need to feel in control of the tiny bit that I can be in control of.

As for my mental health, I just printed out the calendar for the local Buddhist temple I have been meaning to visit and I also need to make an appointment with the therapist my shrink referred me to. Then, to start doing something about my job situation.

For the most part, I try to keep this blog about crafts and stuff. But for some reason I feel the need to put my "plan" in writing so I guess here is as good a place as any. As for crafts, I am continuing on the Ahoy! socks. I just turned the heel on the first one and I'm picking up the gusset stitches. I forgot how quickly socks work up in dk weight yarn. I sewed myself a cute little tank top from some bright pink Hello Kitty fabric and I'm not sure what I want to work on next.

I actually started a new knitting project yesterday. I'm making the "Ahoy! socks" from the sock calendar (May) and I'm actually using the yarn called for in the same color and everything. I bought the yarn while I was at the knitting retreat in March. Anyway, I'm hoping to have these socks done for my sister's birthday next month. Actually, she will be out at sea on her birthday (oceanography research), so I plan to give them to her early so she can take them along.

I'm still sewing quite a bit and finishing things at a mad pace. I don't know if you are sick of looking at the pics, but I guess I'm sick of posting them. So I will spare you for a while. heh.

I guess I might as well go ahead and post this--I had a miscarriage last week. I'm coping the best I can and keeping very busy to keep my mind off things. I'm taking all my maternity & baby stuff to our storage space today. Tomorrow I'm going to try to start getting my life back in order--get healthy and find a job.

Congratulations to my little sister, who defended her master's thesis in oceanography yesterday. Yay! Here's the gift I made for her

I bought the canvas travel case for needlework at JoAnns and stitched on her initials in a cute sea life alphabet

She likes to knit and cross stitch and she travels a lot (especially on boats) so this should be handy.

More sewing.
FOs:

Padres maternity top

yellow cherry print maternity shorts

red gingham maternity sundress (which looks really cute now and it doesn't even look like a maternity dress)

denim capri pants

strawberry shortcake drawstring shorts.

Phew. I'd post some photos, but I'm really tired and I think I need a nap!
