(note: no photos again today since DH left the camera at work).

So, I've been cruising right along on the body of Rogue. Well, fast for me anyway. It's really a fun pattern--a cable to keep you interested, but not so many different cables that it's a chore. If I finish this before Christmas my sister will be a happy, happy girl.

I also finished my Trekking XXL socks in the autumn colorway (I [heart] them and they are for me me me). I immediately went to my (large) sock yarn stash to pick out some new sock yarn. I decided on some Sock it to Me (from elann) puzzle. It's got blue & teal stripes, alternating with the little grey & white fair-isle type pattern. I love having stash! I love knitting (and wearing) socks!

Oh, I almost forgot. My (fabulous) secret pal was Libby. Go check out her blog here.

I have the bestest secret pal, neener neener

I just received my final package from my secret pal. She totally rules. DH has the digital camera so I can't show you a picture, but I will tell you about all my goodies.

  • The Noro book by Cornelia Tuttle Hamilton (you know, the one with Klaralund in it)
  • The Fiber Trends Sunshine & Sails pattern (to make cute cotton bath sets of soap sacks, face cloths, and back scrubbers)
  • Cute monogrammed notecards (brought to you by the letter S)
  • A great cross stitch kit (it's of a cute, fat sheep!)
  • And finally, everything was wrapped in some great cotton fabric with lots of multicolored little sheep (can you say, new sewn knitting bag)?

See, I told you my SP is the bestest.

I finished the first Rogue sleeve. Yay! I blocked it and the gauge/size came out perfect. Yay! For some reason I couldn't get a decent picture of the entire sleeve, so here's a close-up of the cable. I'm planning to cast on for the body right now.

I know this sounds cheezy, but sometimes it's the little things that make you happy, ya know? Today: knitting Rogue, post-season baseball, rain, and chocolate velvet coffee.

Well, I started Rogue yesterday. I'm making it for my sister and I'm using Lion Brand Fisherman's Wool. I started on a sleeve and so far it's pretty fun. I'd take a picture, but it's dark and rainy here again today (no, I'm not complaining).

I also swatched for the cardigan in Men in Knits that I was planning to make for DH. Lucky for him--I don't like the yarn I bought. It's got mohair content and it sheds all over the place. Off to eBay with that!

Aside from some crummy virus (which is going away), I appear to have contracted startitis again. Yesterday I started a scarf from the wool I kool-aid dyed this summer. Then I swatched my alpaca/cashmere from stitches, but realized that I probably do not have enough for a pair of mittens (heavens, my sister can't get only one pair of hand-knit mittens)! I also want to knit my sister a sweater for Christmas (which I doubt will get finished in time, given all my other projects) and a cardigan for DH (which he doesn't really want). Sigh.

At least I have dinner in the slow-cooker (vegetarian chili) so that's one less thing I have to worry about today. We actually need bread, but I'm so lazy that I don't want to go to the grocery store. I may actually bake bread instead (my version of lazy means that I would rather stay home at all costs).

Hey, do you need an excuse to buy some lovely pink yarn? Well, Rosies' yarn cellar is donating money to breast cancer research if you buy any of this great yarn. Speaking of excuses to buy yarn, my sister requested a new pair of mittens for Christmas. So, this was a great excuse for me to order one of these kits. Yay and yum!

I've been sick since Friday so I haven't been knitting the Garden shawl. Sick + lace knitting = frogging later. I did finish the first chart (leaf lace A) on Friday, though. yay! I'm anxious to get back to it when my head doesn't hurt so much.

In other knitting, I turned the heel on the second Trekking autumn sock. I'm also starting to think about Christmas gifts so I started a pair of worsted weight socks for my BIL. He wears a size 14 so there's no way he's getting fingering weight socks! Not this year anyway.

It's raining today and San Diego and I love it. This weekend was the first rain we've gotten in something like 180 days. Crazy! I like having it somewhat dark and cool--it actually feels a bit like autumn. Southern Californians freak out whenever it rains and get in 40-car pileups and stuff. I hope none of them ever have to drive in snow!

Knitting Guru
You appear to be a Knitting Guru. You love knitting
and do it all the time. While finishing a piece
is the plan, you still love the process, and
can't imagine a day going by without giving
some time to your yarn. Packing for vacation
involves leaving ample space for the stash and
supplies. It can be hard to tell where the yarn
ends and you begin.

I'm back and I had a fabulous weekend.

The highlights:
Thursday: Starbucks coffee & cheese danishes with Lori & Susan at 7am. Knitting on the balcony of the condo. Homemade ziti by Jen. Chocolate birthday cake for Susan.
Friday: Stitches Market. Meeting Deb Stoller and seeing what my yoga mat bag pattern will look like in the new book. Knitting and chatting with everyone.
Saturday: More knitting on the patio. Champagne. Jen's lentil & cabbage soup.
Sunday: Knitting while watching ESPN. Back home.

Stitches Market
This was my first Stitches Market so I was a bit overwhelmed. I took off on my own like a crazy woman and cruised through the booths 2 or 3 times in 2 1/2 hours.
What I bought:
something for my secret pal
2 sks koigu in green/yellow
2 sks of some incredibly soft alpaca/cashmere (www.alpacafiberexchange.com)
Cherry Tree Hill Super Glitz sock yarn in winterberry (plus a pattern for it)
Hunt Valley cashmere kits: bootie & bonnet set, triangle lace scarf.

Knitting
I spent the entire weekend knitting socks--Trekking XXL (autumn) & fluted bannister. Shortly I will have 2 new pairs of socks. When I got home, the yarn had arrived for my garden shawl (I had to get birches instead of winterberry) so I started on that yesterday. I'm loving it so far.

I will post a bunch of photos tomorrow!

I hate to be a whiner (ya right), but today has been one of those days. And it's only lunchtime. I have a headache, a stomachache, and a pinched nerve in my shoulder. This morning I made banana bread and I forgot to add the sugar (blech). So I just feel crappy all around and I still have lots of non-fun stuff to do before I leave for N.J. I have to bathe the dog, go to the post office, go to the pet store and buy dogfood, clean the kitchen, and pack. Then I have to get on a plane at 9pm and I won't arrive until 6:30 tomorrow morning. ugh!

The good news is that I'm going to have a fantastic weekend. I love my knitterly friends, and they are kind enough to get up that damn early to pick two of us up at the airport.

In other happy news, I finished my sweater! It needs a good blocking, but that will have to wait. I need to put it in my suitcase so I can wear it all weekend! Here's a terrible bathroom pic (I'm the only one home and this color photographs terribly anyway)

The yarn is Peruvian Sierra from elann. 80% highland wool, 20% alpaca. The color is really a dark purple-ish with bits of red. And the sweater fits perfectly! It's a bit oversized, but that's how the pattern was written, which I like.

I finished up the sewing on my mom's Christmas table runner and a strawberry shortcake flannel shirt for me. I'm pleased with both of them, but too lazy to post photos.

I'm this close to finishing my Peruvian Sierra pullover. Looks like I will be taking it to New Jersey after all. Yay! (I might have to skip the blocking on the front, though. oh well).

Here's my fluted banister sock in progress. I'm using cherry tree hill supersock in fall foliage. The pattern is kind of mneh, but the yarn is yummy! Posted by Hello

Did I mention that I'm going to Stitches East next week? I am so excited. This will be my first time going to any of the Stitches conventions. I'm not planning on taking any classes--I just want to shop the market! But, more importantly, I'm meeting up with several friends and we have rented a big house in Brigantine, NJ. I can't wait...it will be sort of like the retreat we did in March, but with fewer people. Ahh, yarn shopping, eating, drinking, and knitting with good friends. Seriously, does it get better than that? I'm leaving Wed. night and returning Sun. night. Woohoo!

I'm thinking I should finish up my v-neck pullover to take on the trip. It's not that it's so interesting that it needs to be shown off, but rather it will be warm and comfy and I have very few handknit sweaters of my own. Plus, the color kind of goes with everything.
